CARICATURESbyGene Hamilton |
I draw "kind" caricatures. Each face is very much like the actual person's face. However, the body is very cartoonized and is in the subject's favorite leisurely activity. Golfing, fishing, dancing, and more, are examples of leisurely activities. |

I work at live events and I also work from photos. Live events include company parties, annual meetings and award banquets, and outdoor picnics. I draw at high school post-prom parties and school all night graduation parties, plus bar and bat mitzvahs. |

My caricature art has been used in sales meetings, business cards, Christmas cards, private and corporate gifts, and retirements. Other uses include Valentine's Day, anniversary and birthday gifts. I draw pet caricatures, too. Again, the faces are realistic and the bodies are silly. |
|
At live events I work in black and white. I use dark pencil on archival white eleven by fourteen inch bristol board paper. I work as large as nineteen by twenty-four inches for retirement gifts. When I work from photos I often use color, which is achieved by using watercolor. |

How much I charge:
For local live events I charge $140.00 per hour, plus tax, payable at the start of the event. A typical engagement averages two hours but I have drawn for as long as seven straight hours. The only break I take is a brief bathroom run, because I hate to leave folks waiting in line very long. I draw one person every five minutes or less. I draw couples and groups. A couple takes about 10 minutes to draw.

For live event work out-of-town I charge mileage and hotel plus one meal if an overnight stay is required. I also ask for a minimum of two hours unless the location is less than an hour or so away from Des Moines, Iowa.
Written confirmation is required when booking me for a live event. Confirmation should include location, directions to event site, terms of payment, contact names and phone numbers. All I require at the site is a small table, two or three ordinary chairs, and enough light to see what the heck I'm doing. Some people even give me pop to help keep my eyes open! Payment is required directly upon my arrival to any event without delay to ease my worried mind.
When I work from photos this is what I charge:

Add $10.00 if the 11 x 14" work is handled by mail. I ship art and photos back via U. S. Priority Mail. Payment is expected when the photos are mailed to me. I work promptly and your project will most likely be completed by the day following my receipt of your photos. Photos should be clearly focused and as close as possible to the subject. I usually suggest sending more than one photo per subject. Include the subject's name and a few tidbits about the person or pet, such as favorite activities, etc.
All I do for my livelihood is art. I make art for corporate collections. My paintings, prints and sculptures are in many dozens of U.S. corporate collections and in several museums. I draw caricatures and teach adults how to use watercolors. I teach kids how to cartoon. Drawing caricatures is fun for me. I love being around people and sometimes I even throw out a few tasteful wisecracks.
